Dunk Contest: A Beginner's Guide

First thing to know: this is not your average point-and-shoot hoops game. You've got exactly 14 bullets per round, and every single one counts, so treat each tap like it's the last shot of the fourth quarter. Missing early just means you're scrambling later, and that panic never leads anywhere good.

How To Play

The setup is simple on the surface. You tap the screen to fire the ball, watching it bounce off the backboard or rim before hopefully dropping through the net, and that rebound physics is really the whole game hiding underneath the simplicity. There's no dragging a trajectory line or adjusting power sliders, just clean taps timed against the arc of the shot. The explosive mode kicks things up a notch, throwing in extra chaos that messes with your usual rhythm, so a rebound angle that worked fine in normal play might send the ball skidding off in a totally different direction here. Along the way you'll pick up purple diamonds just by playing, and those get funneled into the store, where fifteen ball skins are sitting there waiting to be unlocked. None of the skins change how the ball behaves, far as we can tell, but swapping visuals keeps a highscore chase from feeling stale after your twentieth run.

Score-Boosting Tactics

  • Watch the backboard angle before tapping — a lot of makes come off the glass, not a clean swish.
  • Slow down between shots even though the pace feels fast; rushed taps waste bullets fast.
  • Save a couple of bullets near the end of your run instead of firing them all early out of nerves.
  • Treat explosive mode as a separate skill, since the usual rebound math gets thrown off.
  • Grab diamonds whenever they cross your path, they add up quicker than you'd expect.
  • Try a few different ball skins once unlocked, purely to keep runs feeling fresh over time.
